24 week update

Baby James now weighs just over a pound and is as long as an ear of corn (about 1 foot). He is filling out proportionately and should start plumping up even more in the next several weeks. James's lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will allow his air sacs to inflate when he is born (only 16 more weeks to go!). Another thing to note is that my uterus should be about the size of a soccer ball. I think James likes soccer balls because he kicks all the time! It's really an incredible feeling! I was thinking my baby bump had reached a rather large size until I compared belly's with my friend Lauren who is 35 weeks pregnant. James and my belly have a lot of growing to do!
