Monkey

We recently purchased a Wubbanub. What's a Wubbanub you ask? It's a small stuffed animal attached to a Soothie pacifier (the pacifiers used in hospitals). It keeps the pacifier from falling too far away from the baby. We chose a monkey for our little monkey. It not only keeps the pacifier in place, but it gives James something to cuddle with.

James and Cole

Last week we went to visit our friends Lauren, Matt and Cole Warner. Cole is about 3 months older than James, and this was the 3rd time James has gotten to play with Cole. James was a little upset during some of their play time, but like a good friend, Cole helped James through it.

James is 6 weeks old!

Things James can do at 6 weeks:
1) Recognize Mommy and Daddy (we think).
2) Smile!
3) Sleep anywhere from 2-4 hours between feedings at night.
4) Tell the difference between night and day (he goes right back to sleep after nursing at night).
5) Hold his head up during tummy time.
6) Eat!
7) Poo!
8) Cry!
Okay, those last 3 are obvious, but I figured I should make a complete list :)

Adventures in Cloth Diapering

This weekend we switched to cloth diapers. One and a half days in, I can't complain! We are currently using 12 Bum Genius 3.0 All in One diapers (size small). They fit James great, and so far no leaks! I also have 19 Bum Genius 3.0 One-Size-Fits-All diapers, but at the moment they are a little too big for James (so much for one-size-fits-all). I'll have to start incorporating those in as James gets a little bigger. Since we have 12 diapers that fit right now, we will have to supplement with some disposables on occasion. I really like the Nature Baby Care diapers- they have biodegradable components making them a little better for the environment (they can be purchased at Babies-R-Us or online). Our initial plan for washing the cloth diapers is: dirty diapers go in a cloth laundry bag (no rinsing required as breastfed baby waste is water soluble); every other day, diapers get washed and line dried (it's been over 100 degrees everyday here in Texas so we figure we'd take advantage of the heat- it's got to be good for something). I'm sure our system may require some tweaking as we go, but we're really excited about our new venture. I'll post an update soon!

Tummy Time!

Every so often, we put James on his tummy to work on his head control and neck muscles. He ususally struggles for a bit then gets fussy. This time, however, he stayed happy.

Our June Bug this week

One morning this past week, James and I were playing on the floor (well he was awake and calm, and I was being silly). I walked out of the room for a minute, and found this when I came back... a sleeping June Bug!

James is mesmerized by the ceiling fans in our house. He actually noticed them in his first couple weeks of life. Often when we are holding him and trying to soothe him to sleep, he tilts his head back and stares at the ceiling fan. As we walk around the room, he moves his head to keep the fan in his sights. It's pretty cute!

Handsome Daddy

For a while now, we've been saying Dave needs a new suit, and we finally had a couple reasons to get him one. This past week, Dave had to take a photo in a suit for work for a new program he is on, and in September he will need a suit for a friend's wedding. Doesn't he look handsome?

Another 1 month picture...

I was trying to take this picture yesterday, but James was just too fussy to get a good one. So far today, James has been generally happy and has had 2 good naps! Our little June Bug is growing so fast! He is starting to grow out of newborn clothes and fit into 0-3 month clothes. I can't wait to dress him in all the cute clothes we have for him.

James is 1 month old!

James now weighs 9 lbs. 5 oz. Our doctor is very impressed with our little man's weight gain! We've hit a rough patch this week... James has decided he only likes to sleep on us or in the car seat. Some days are better than others for getting him down in the crib. He's also on his first prescription medication to treat thrush. Poor baby!

Dave has started to give James an occasional bottle so that I can get a break. James is a pro!
